Nordic Cup Golf Tournament is a fundraiser for two important institutions for Norwegians and Nordics in Southern California: The Norwegian Seamen’s Church and Nansen Field. Once a year, we invite you to play in our golf tournament. Bring your own foursome, bring a fellow golfer or come by yourself (we will place you in a group). Enjoy a fun-filled day with golf, lunch, dinner and other activities.

The Norwegian Seamen's Church

First established in 1941, The Norwegian Seamen's Church in San Pedro, CA, is the most important meeting place for Scandinavians in Southern California with over 12,000 visitors each year. The Norwegian-based headquarters of the Seamen’s Church only pays wages for the pastor, the host family, and two diaconal employees, while all other expenses, including locally-hired employees, are entirely dependent on local donations and fundraising.

Nansen Field

Nansen Field was established in 1949 as a soccer field for visiting seamen. In 1952, Seamen of Norway Inc. (SNI) was established and the deed transferred to this entity on February 29, 1952 and Nansen Field became the property of SNI in an irrevocable charitable trust. SCAN (Scandinavian Center at Nansen Field) was formed in May 1997 and embarked on the ambitious endeavor of establishing a Scandinavian Heritage, Cultural and Sports Center at Nansen Field. SCAN is responsible for preserving, maintaining and financially operating Nansen Field and its facilities and plays a vital role in fulfilling the cultural, athletic, educational and social needs of the Nordic community and others in Southern California.
